Engine Shampoo for a Safe and Thorough Wash

Remove road grime and deposits with sufficient lubrication, without unnecessarily damaging existing wax, sealant, or coating

A good shampoo does more than just produce foam. The product must loosen dirt, provide enough lubrication between the wash mitt and surface, and rinse off easily after washing. This helps prevent sand and dirt from being dragged across paint, carbon, and plastic during contact washing.

  • pH-neutral shampoos for regular maintenance
  • Safe cleaning of paint and suitable plastic parts
  • Formulas that help preserve existing wax, sealant, and coating
  • Gloss-enhancing and wash-and-wax variants available
  • Shampoo from D-Con, Mothers, and Chemical Guys

In this collection, you’ll find shampoos for both motorcycles and cars. D-Con Mint Splash & Wash combines pH-neutral cleaning with a gloss-enhancing finish. Mothers California Gold Car Wash focuses on powerful yet safe maintenance cleaning, while Chemical Guys Glossworkz emphasizes smoothness and shine.

Additionally, there are wash-and-wax products and highly foaming shampoos that can be used with a wash bucket, foam gun, or Foam Lance depending on the version.

Maintenance Shampoo or Wash-and-Wax

A regular pH-neutral maintenance shampoo cleans without intentionally leaving a noticeable protective layer. This is a good choice when the motorcycle is already treated with wax, sealant, or coating.

A wash-and-wax shampoo contains additional ingredients that can leave gloss and a light protective effect during washing. This does not replace a full wax or coating treatment but can support existing protection.

Safe Washing with Two or Three Buckets

Preferably use one bucket with shampoo and a second bucket with clean rinse water. Rinse the wash mitt after each section before dipping it back into the clean soap.

For a motorcycle, a third bucket for wheels and heavily soiled parts can be practical. This prevents brake dust, chain grime, and coarse road dirt from ending up in the same wash mitt or bucket as the delicate paintwork.

Grit Guard and Soft Wash Mitt

A grit guard keeps coarser dirt settled at the bottom of the bucket. Also use a soft, clean wash mitt that traps dirt in the fibers instead of pushing it across the surface.

Work from top to bottom and save the rear bridge, wheels, and underside for last. For heavily soiled technical parts, preferably use separate tools.

Foam Lance and Hand Wash

A foam shampoo can be applied as a pre-wash with a suitable Foam Lance. The foam helps loosen dirt before you touch the motorcycle with a wash mitt.

Not every hand shampoo produces the same foam pattern in a Foam Lance. Therefore, check if the product is suitable for the intended use and follow the recommended mixing ratio.

Work on a Cool Surface

Wash the motorcycle preferably in the shade and on a cooled surface. Never let shampoo dry on paint, carbon, glass, or plastic.

Rinse thoroughly and dry the motorcycle with a clean microfiber drying towel or suitable drying system. Avoid household dish soap, as it is not designed for regular use on vehicle paint and existing protective layers.
