The rubber dampers in the Honda Hawk's rear sprocket carrier wear out and dry out over time, resulting in hard, damaged rubbers. This decreases the smoothness in accelerating and decelerating, which is detrimental to both safety and comfort.
The dampers are easy to replace, giving you a much smoother ride with little effort. Added bonus: it increases the longevity of your chain and sprockets, as power is transmitted better as well.

Tools needed:
Socket 46
Torque Wrench (see below)
Allen Bolt Tool 8 (preferably a socket version)
Wrench 17
Pulley Puller (optional)
Hammer (optional)

Torque settings:
Rear Axle Nut 165Nm
Rear Sprocket Nuts 43Nm

How do I install new Cush Drive Rubbers in my Honda Hawk?

1. Secure the Hawk on the center stand or a Paddock Stand.
2. Loosen the pinch bolt on the swingarm that holds the Rear Axle Hub in place:
   
3. Loosen the Rear Hub and take tension off of the chain.
4. Remove the two bolts that secure the Chain Guard.
5. Remove the dent that secures the Rear Axle Nut (90306MZ7000 / 90306-MZ7-000) and loosen the nut with socket 46 (we sell a 46mm socket here).
   
6. Loosen and remove the Rear Sprocket Bolts and remove the rear sprocket. These require hex 8 and spanner 17.
   Important: the Rear Sprocket Nuts (90308MN8000 /  90308-MN8-000) are vulnerable, and have been discontinued by Honda. Work carefully and ensure these nuts aren't damaged.
7. Now remove the Rear Sprocket Carrier. The carrier might be stuck on due to oxidation and dirt, use a rubber hammer to carefully tap the hub off. Be careful not to damage anything.
   
8. Remove the old Cush Drive Rubbers from the carrier. When dried out and torn these can look like the ones below:
   
9. Clean the Rear Axle and apply a thin coating of grease to prevent oxidation. Don't overdo it, a little will suffice. I personally use Xeramic Lithium Grease.
10. Clean all parts of the Rear Hub as well as the Axle and the Swingarm. Take care to properly clean the insides of the hub.
11. Install the new Cush Drive Rubbers in the Sprocket Carrier as shown below:
    
12. Install the Rear Hub's Base Plate on the Axle, and install the Sprocket Carrier with the new rubber dampers onto the Base Plate. 
    Don't forgot to add the spacer between the two parts.
    Replace the Rear Axle Nut if damaged.
    Install the big washers and the nut onto the rear axle, and tighten at 165Nm:
    
13. Use the original bolts and nuts to install the Rear Sprocket. Carefully place these, and tighten at 43Nm.
14. Correctly tension the chain (make sure not to put too much tension on the chain, the Hawk is meant to have a chain that looks to be too slack) and then tighten the Rear Axle Pinch Bolt at 75Nm.
15. Install the Chain Guard with the two bolts, tighten at 11Nm.
